8 Budget-Friendly DC Date Night Ideas

Date night isn’t limited to just dinner and a movie. Especially not if you live in a city like Washington, DC. Here you can tour historical museums, picnic with planes, and engage in a friendly competition at the arcade. Give one of these 8 date night ideas a try.

Meander the halls of the Smithsonian American Art Museum.

Open daily from 11:30 am until 7pm. This is one date that won’t break the bank. Admission is free all day, every day. The museum is full of folk art, carvings, sculptures, and paintings. Guests are able to tour the artwork themselves, or you can sign up for a guided tour.

Have a picnic at Gravelly Point.

Instead of eating at one of the many upscale DC restaurants, have your meal outdoors. Gravelly Point is a unique green space area with amazing views of DC. Trails along the Potomac River make for a great way to walk (or ride) off your meal. The big draw to the area is its proximity to the Raegan National Airport. You can sit and watch the planes fly overhead and land on the nearby runway.

Sample treats at the Eastern Market.

This indoor/outdoor market is perfect for a casual date with your significant other. Vendors set up shop with their handmade crafts, artwork, and locally grown produce. You can stop in and grab a quick, pre-made meal at one of the many indoor locations. Don’t forget to grab a bouquet of fresh cut flowers before you leave. The market is open every day except Monday. For more information on events, take a look at their website.

Take a tour at Tudor Place.

The Tudor Place is one of America’s first National Historic Landmarks. The home was built in 1816 by a granddaughter of Martha Washington and son Robert Peter, who was the first Mayor of Georgetown. The house stayed with the Peter family for over 170 years and, is now serving as a historical museum and garden. The majority of the landscaping you see today is original to the home. You can schedule guided tours every hour, and this month only, tours are only $1.
